Fall in the Dolomites, Val di Funes, Italy

Two years ago I made a brief visit to the Val Di Funes in South Tyrol, Italy and I swore I would return one day when I had more time to explore. So last fall, I finally did. I met up with a very good photographer friend for a short girls weekend tucked into the tiny town of Santa Magdelena in the Valley (Val di Funes) at the foot of the Dolomite mountain range. We spent 3 days exploring, photographing and relaxing in the solitude of this stunning area. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Perhaps you have never heard of Alajar. I know I hadn’t until very good friends of mine decided this would be their wedding destination this past year. So off I went for 8 days to a place I knew virtually nothing about and fell in love with everything about Andalusia.

European must see…Dolomites in the Val Di Funes, South Tyrol

Dolomites in Italy

The Dolomites are a mountain range located where Italy and Austria collide, in South Tyrol. Through much persistence on my part, I convinced the husband last year on a way to an event that we should go here on our way home. Needless to say when he saw the views laid out before us, he knew why I had been so relentless in my insisting we visit…this is one of the most beautiful places I had ever been.

Germany Travel Tips: Hiking to Herzogstand with views of Walchensee

Walchensee View from HerzogstandI’ve said before that Walchensee is one of my very favorite lakes in Bavaria. Last fall the husband and I finally made it back to this beautiful alpine lake to go for a hike and it did not disappoint! While our original plan of hiking from Herzogstand to Heimgarten didn’t work as planned, we ended up making the 2 1/2 hour (ok, probably took us 3 1/2 hours) to Herzogstand and it was well worth every minute.
