I was nominated a little while ago by Beth and Randy over at Beers & Beans travel blog to participate in the Tripbase “My 7 Links” project and although it took a little while for me to get to it, here are My 7 Links! Thanks again Beers & Beans for the nomination!
When my husband and I take a road trip we will usually stay in cheaper hotels and motels to save a bit of money, but always try and plan one special night in a nicer place. By chance this time we managed to have two really nice evenings, one being at the Inn of the Lost Coast, and the other being here, at the Glendeven Bed and Breakfast in Mendocino, California. Both of which did not disappoint.
While the California Redwoods are hardly a hidden travel treasure, some things are just too spectacular not to mention. On our recent road trip along the Pacific Northwest we both knew we wanted to experience the Redwood forests, but we weren’t exactly sure where to start. There are many state parks in the area and it can be a bit daunting when traveling to decide where is the best place to go. After a little research we settled on driving down the Avenue of the Giants and we were definitely not disappointed.
You are either searching for something special, or truly and utterly lost if you find yourself in Shelter Cove (otherwise known as the Lost Coast) in California. About 30 miles off of highway 1 you will find yourself in a place you can hardly believe is there. After winding through miles of forest, steep hills, and fog… just about when you are thinking to yourself “Where on Earth are we going??” , you will come out along the coast. The Lost Coast. There is little to no cell phone reception, no traffic, no stores even…just a small town on the edge of the ocean, waiting there for you to come visit and relax.
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what drove us to visit this place. (Other than our little rental Kia) Niether of us had ever heard of it before, but something told us we would love it, and that we did.
Seattle’s notable skyline has been recognized throughout the world ever since Tom and Meg were “Sleepless in Seattle” , and now of course because of the ever popular “Grey’s Anatomy”. So of course I couldn’t visit this city without hunting down a great spot to shoot the nighttime skyline…and a great spot I found.
The US is absolutely huge and there are many options when planning a roadtrip. Lots of people drive along California’s scenic coast or take the famous Route 66 from Chicago to LA…but I regret to say that few travelers have Oregon very high on there list of places to visit. I know because I was one of them, but not anymore people…not any more. Oregon surprised me in more ways than one, and the magnificent and dramatic coastline was certainly one of them.
Don’t you just love the excitement of going somewhere you’ve never been?? Well, we are finally leaving for our 2 week US Northwest road trip and we couldn’t be happier about it. It was the only time of year we were able to plan a proper trip, so even though we will be missing my favorite time in Munich (Oktoberfest), at least it’s for good reason!
We are off to Seattle today and will be making our way down to San Francisco stopping in lots of amazing spots along the way. I’m hoping to find lots of great material to add to Hidden Travel Treasures…so if you have any tips, let me know! Look forward to posting some new travel tips soon!
