Big Cat Rescue, Tampa, Florida

I lived in Tampa for about 9 years, and this was one of the most interesting places I went to. If your visiting the area and have already rode all the roller coasters at Busch Gardens and are looking for something to do, you might want to consider visiting the Big Cat Rescue.  Located in the area of Citrus Park, it is home to the largest accredited rescue for wild cats. They take in cats that have been abused or mistreated and can no longer live in the wild and provide a home for them. All of their money comes from donations and visitors, so not only is it extremely interesting to see these animals up close, you are also contributing to a great cause. ( It’s quite expensive to feed these guys!)

Florida Travel Tip- Siesta Key Drum Circle

Every Sunday about an hour before sunset people of all ages gather together on Siesta Key Beach just south of the main pavilion for the weekly drum circle. Everyone is there. Families, tourists, belly dancers, hippies of all ages, and I’ve even seen a couple fire dancers. Over the years it has grown quite a bit and on Sundays with nice weather there can be a couple hundred people out there. It is really something fun to do when you are visiting the area. It is free and you can bring some blankets and chairs, watch the sunset, and enjoy some time out on the beach. (Personally, I think this is the best time to be out on the beach in Florida!) This is one of my favorite things to do when I am home visiting, and certainly something I hope continues for years to come.
