Despite being known for it’s beaches, theme parks, and retirement communities, Florida has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. Inland you will find an intricate ecosystem of freshwater springs, 21 of which are located in Florida State Parks. Their clear, turquoise water and constant refreshing temperature of around 70 degrees make a perfect place to escape Florida’s oppressing summertime heat. Juniper Springs in the Ocala National Forest is a gorgeous place to spend a weekend and enjoy some authentic Florida nature!
Over the past few years I’ve found when traveling that I (and my family) are enjoying the experience of staying in a house rather than a hotel. Something about having your own little place while being on holiday is so much nicer to me. You can cook, relax, and spread out which in my opinion makes a holiday all that much more enjoyable. For this reason I’ve started using some of the great tools out there to find places to rent when we go on trips. Dwellable is one of those great tools and they just released a new version of their travel app which makes me like them even more!
Not all Florida beaches are created equal. Some have great surf, some are beautiful but are difficult to access…but there is one spot on the central gulf coast that has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. That is Whitney Beach on Longboat Key. The sand is white and soft, the water is gorgeous, and there is hardly ever anyone there.
While Bradenton, Florida might not be the most sought after destination…it does have it’s hidden jewels. The beaches are beautiful (and there is actually parking), the people are friendly, and now to add another to that list…you can find some great live music here. Downtown consists of about 5 or 6 bars, all of which are decent, but on Sunday and Tuesday evenings, something special happens and the sounds of blues and swing come out of Corks cigar bar. You almost can’t help but be drawn in…
