Travel tips in Germany: Hiking through the Hoellentalklamm (Hell Valley Gorge)

Germany Travel Tips: Hiking to Herzogstand with views of Walchensee

Walchensee View from HerzogstandI’ve said before that Walchensee is one of my very favorite lakes in Bavaria. Last fall the husband and I finally made it back to this beautiful alpine lake to go for a hike and it did not disappoint! While our original plan of hiking from Herzogstand to Heimgarten didn’t work as planned, we ended up making the 2 1/2 hour (ok, probably took us 3 1/2 hours) to Herzogstand and it was well worth every minute.

Traveling in Germany: Visiting an Ostrich Farm

Ostrich Farm BavariaWhen out exploring, my husband and I love to visit farms. Anywhere there are fresh fruits and veggies and/or farm animals, we pretty much call that a successful day.  For some reason we are fond of Ostriches. They are just the funniest animals and we could watch them all day. Not to mention they are quite tasty! (Sorry vegetarians)  So when a friend of mine recently pointed me to an Ostrich farm (Straussenfarm Donaumoos) we knew we had to go check it out…and it did not disappoint!

Visiting Nymphenburg Schlosspark in the Winter

Nymphenburg Schloss Park in Winter

The Nymphenburg Schloss (or Nymphenburg Palace) is a great stop if you are visiting Munich. The building itself is a typical tourist destination in this city, but the gardens behind it are an attraction all on their own. Even in the winter. And while there is an entry fee to visit the palace itself, the park behind the Schloss is free for everyone.

Overnight Alpine Hiking

Even though I have lived at the foot of the Alps for about 4 years now, I have (embarrassingly) just discovered overnight Alpine hiking. Although I have been on many trips around Munich for day hikes…ie- here, here, and here… I had yet to experience the true joy of spending the night in the mountains. And let me tell you right now, it. is. amazing.
