Two years ago I made a brief visit to the Val Di Funes in South Tyrol, Italy and I swore I would return one day when I had more time to explore. So last fall, I finally did. I met up with a very good photographer friend for a short girls weekend tucked into the tiny town of Santa Magdelena in the Valley (Val di Funes) at the foot of the Dolomite mountain range. We spent 3 days exploring, photographing and relaxing in the solitude of this stunning area. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

The Dolomites are a mountain range located where Italy and Austria collide, in South Tyrol. Through much persistence on my part, I convinced the husband last year on a way to an event that we should go here on our way home. Needless to say when he saw the views laid out before us, he knew why I had been so relentless in my insisting we visit…this is one of the most beautiful places I had ever been.

I’ve done a few posts on here about the Partnachklamm, one of my favorite places to go hiking in Bavaria in both winter and summer. Recently, the husband and I decided to explore a different gorge in the same area called Hoellentalklamm (or Hell Valley Gorge if translated into English) and it did not disappoint!

I’ve said before that Walchensee is one of my very favorite lakes in Bavaria. Last fall the husband and I finally made it back to this beautiful alpine lake to go for a hike and it did not disappoint! While our original plan of hiking from Herzogstand to Heimgarten didn’t work as planned, we ended up making the 2 1/2 hour (ok, probably took us 3 1/2 hours) to Herzogstand and it was well worth every minute.

When out exploring, my husband and I love to visit farms. Anywhere there are fresh fruits and veggies and/or farm animals, we pretty much call that a successful day. For some reason we are fond of Ostriches. They are just the funniest animals and we could watch them all day. Not to mention they are quite tasty! (Sorry vegetarians) So when a friend of mine recently pointed me to an Ostrich farm (Straussenfarm Donaumoos) we knew we had to go check it out…and it did not disappoint!
