I always enjoy going to outdoor city events when the weather is nice. Whether it be a farmer’s market, art show, or beer tasting festival (yes, there is such a magical thing) I always love it when I accidentally stumble into something like that on a nice day when maybe we didn’t know what to do. This weekend in Munich is the annual Streetlife Festival and even more interesting, the Ex & Hop Contest, which is a fun BMX and MTB contest / show held by some of my close friends every year.

To add to my ongoing list of
favorite cafe’s is Cafe Altschwabing in Munich. Located in the heart of Schwabing on Schellingstrasse 56, this establishment has been in the city for over 100 years. I was recently introduced to this great spot by a friend of mine and it was easily a favorite. With it’s beautiful tall ceilings, elegant but cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and great prices…this is somewhere I will come back to again and again.

Munich has a lot of amazing food. You can find almost everything from every corner in the world, but the sushi selection in my opinion is not that wonderful. I have been on the hunt in this city to find a sushi bar that has great food along with a nice atmosphere, and while I found a couple that were “ok”…I never was really satified. Until now.

I love flea markets. You just never know what you might find there. Every week in Munich there is a great flea market in the Olympia Park Stadium parking lot, open on Friday and Saturday 7am – 4pm, rain or shine (and in Munich’s case, sometimes snow). These people are hardcore, I’ve seen the booths set up on even the crappiest of weather… In fact the only time when this market is closed is when the Olympic Stadium is having an event.

Just about an hour from Munich you can visit Garmisch Partenkirchen, a picturesque mountain town in the Bavarian Alps. While this is a fun place to visit in the winter for all the skiers and snowboarders, it makes for a great little day trip in the Summer as well. You can easily take your bikes on the train and purchase a Bayern Ticket and for almost nothing, head to the mountains.
